So Here I am, yet again pointlessly writing a review which not many people (almost none, realistically speaking) will read. But because I have obligation to update my blog daily, I will do so nonetheless.
Several months ago, one of my best friends, JY, mentioned this game called "Vanquish," created by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil series. This game was supposed to be something like...

ALL MIXED TOGETHER!!!
'ㅁ';;;
So this very unusual yet unique concept intrigued me very much, and I decided to check out the trailer.
AND I WITNESSED THE AWESOMENESS OF EPIC PROPORTION!!!
Only thing left for me to do was to readily accept the god of purchasing, and let him do the rest.
-Few Days Later-
When I came to, I found myself religiously playing this game at home, with my parents looking at me, probably thinking,
'I have to watch today's episode of Korean drama... -_-'
![]() |
| -Not the actual parents of Arcane.- |
Because I was scared to death being nice to my parents, I gave up my right to hog the TV (T_T), and had to wait for my parents to be over and done with the drama.
-Few Months Later-
At last, I have regained the rightful ownership of the TV, and just today, have finished Vanquish. Thus, begin my actual review of the game.
First, the learning curve. It can be summarized with this:
![]() |
| -Holy Sh!t...- |
Extremely steep learning curve. It was like playing Ninja gaiden for the first time.
Sure, it looks cool when you play like this game play video, but the chances of actual players playing this game like the video is...
Now, many of you will be thinking 'Well, once I get used to it, I'm sure I'll be fine.' Let me break your miserable dream -_-
As you get used to the controls, the difficulty AND the number of bosses you have to fight at once also increases. (That's right.... You're Fu#%ed...)
Such as this tiny, little, mother...!!!
![]() |
| -Do you have any idea how many times I died because of you?!?!- |
If you're reading this and have already witnessed this boss, you'll know what I'm talking about -_-
Anyway, moving on...
Second, the graphic. Despite the fact that it's only 720p resolution, not 1080p, the game vanquish features very detailed graphic with cool animations and lots of interaction with the enviornments.
-If you look closely, his visor is placed on the lower half of his face;; Maybe his eyes are placed inside his mouth...?- |
Third, the storyline. To be completely honest, the storyline is little bit awkward. With Hilary Clinton female president of US, the group of Soviet Communist destroying San Fran with weapons of mass destruction and the entire enemy forces being robots, (When will the people on earth learn that sending humans to fight against robot is pointless...) it's rather typical for experienced gamers. The ending doesn't clearly wrap up the storyline and leaves some hints for the sequel.
Last but not least, the gameplay. See the following comparisons for the gameplay review.
Using the objects in the environment as cover: Gears of War
ARS (Augmented Reaction Suit) AR Time: Bullet time from Matrix
Speedy and Stylish action: Devil May Cry
Overall character design: P.N.03
If you want to play the game safe, without dying thousands of times, I suggest you use the cover effectively and avoid using AR time for stylish action. The game itself is very fast paced, and somewhat all over the place, with so many robots shooting at you all at the same time.
Now, let's wrap this up!
All in all, Vanquish is really fun game to play with extremely steep learning curve and rather short gameplay hours. But I certainly enjoyed it!! (This doesn't mean that I'll be playing it again -_-) If you have lots of time on your hand but not much cash, rent the game and beat it in a day or two. (Says the person who bought the game;;;)
